"Suspect sought in Greeley shooting." By The Denver Post. In this article it mattered that the shooter or suspect is "on the loose" and needs to be caught. After reading this I couldn't help but wonder to myself why would he shoot another man in a public building? The good thing is that the man was not killed. But, it is still unacceptable that he would shoot someone. The victim could have been seriously injured or killed and that's just not fair. But, it makes me wonder or almost feel bad for the shooter. I almost pity him for the fact that you must have some mental challenges or needs that made him shoot someone. So that also brings a question to mind, Does the shooter have mental problems? In this story I think that it is not fair that a man was shot for no apparent reason, but makes me wonder is the shooter has mental issues.

"Boy arrested for alleged threats at Fountain Highschool." By The assoiated Press. In this story it mattered that there was a very sick boy that was very "Confused" says Sgt. Jess freeman. I think it is very intresting that no one noticed that a young boy like this likely has mental issues. I tink it is so stupid and sad that there is more violevce and crime occuring then less. Why? What is the point of threating a boy? I just don't understand why people keep doing this stuff. All that comes out of it is people getting hurt and going to jail. This boy wil likely be fined because his parents have failed to notice that he has some problams. It is getting worse, all this crime and violence.

"Armed standoff With police in Winter park." By Joey Bunch. In this story what mattetred is that the author just needed to get the information out about a standoff and mabye to intrest some people. I always think that these kind of stories are kind of intresting. When I read this two immediate questions came to my mind. Was anyone killed? and Why was there a standoff in the first place? I really hope there was not anyone killed, that would horrible. It's not fair that some person trying to make a quick buck would kill an innocent police man trying to do his job. I'm not really sure what I think of this story but whoever was shhoting at the police got what he deserved.

In the article "Boyfriend arrested in murder of Brighton woman." By Kirk Mitchell, In this article it mattered that the man who killed his girlfriend in more senseless violence. The article did not go into much detail, but it sounds like more crime for no reason. In this story it was different than my last ones, the loved one did the killing. He lost his girlfriend, but because he killed her not someone else. It surprises me that a man would do that just out of the blue. He was probably the killer because he was the one to be last seen with her. I quite honestly am sick of all this nonsense and violence. My question is why?, why would you kill your girlfriend? That makes no sense to me, I guess I have a lot to learn. In this story there was a killing that was for no reason and basically should not have been committed.

"Sheridan teacher charged in child sex case." By the Denver post. In this story it mattered that a teacher that had sex with a child was arrested and jailed. Once again there was an illegal doing here and someone did something horrible for pleasure. I think it ridiculous that a teacher would actually sleep with another student. I mean come on she was probably giving him an A and he was probably not doing a thing to deserve the grade he was getting. By sleeping with the teacher it disrupts his learning and that will hurt him later in life. I think it is pro postures that a teacher would even think of doing that. The teacher is hurt by this because she is suspended and not being paid, but it hurts the kid even more because it is likely that he is not learning and doing his own work.

In the article Memorial to Loveland shooting victim disappears, by the associated press. in this story it matters that as if it wasn't bad enough that a kid was killed, but his memorial was taken, that's just horrible. In this story, like my others, it is mostly about senseless crime and violence. What did this child do to deserve this? He probably didn't do anything to who ever killed him. It was probably just some gang annotation. That's what I think, but another brother or sister or mom or dad lost someone they loved because of something really stupid. Our economy is having a hard time, and on top of that this kids parents have to have a funeral. That is just plain and simply not fair. I don't think any violence is right so we really need to try to stop it all together. So many families are losing people they love.

Denver drive-by shooter kills victim,by Kieran Nicholson. In this story it mattered that there is probably a gang member that once again killed someone for no random reason. If you read my previous PLN's you will se a lot of deaths in them. Most of them were random and very violent. The boy was just walking down a street and was shot with his two friends and was shot, as it says in the article. But, in this story the police are doing something to find him instead of blowing it off which makes me happy to see them working. That proves that they are taking these crimes very seriously and want to put a stop to it, which also matters to the author. I think as well as the author that we need to put the criminals in jail and keep the good people safe.

Suspected illegal immigrant arrested in AVON Chase. By the associated press. In this story it mattered that an illegal immigrant who was in possession of drugs and drunk driving was caught and arrested. It is people like this that make America a worse place to live and it needs to be stopped. In the story it said he had cocaine and was drunk driving and that is just ridiculous. Those are two things that are really dangerous and bad for you. This effects everyone around him, he could have crashed into someone and killed them and them someone would loose a family member. it is not fair to the world around him when they are abiding by the law and he is doing a lot of things against it. The only way we could stop these mind-less crimes and we could make check points where drivers have to stop and take a test. I think it ridiculous what this fool did and i'm glad he is in prison.

In Kirk Mitchell's article “Man struck by freight train in Colorado Springs” what mattered to him was to raise awareness about how dangerous trains and being by their tracks can really be. I honestly don’t know how you get killed by a train because you shouldn’t even be by them in the first place. In his article he states “486 people died and 393 were injured while trespassing railroad property in the U.S. He is trying to get people to think twice about going to a train track because it can be potentially life treating. In the article Lt. Julie stone states “ You can never assume any tracks are safe.” Mitchell is trying to show people that it is extremely dangerous. Mitchell is trying to stress that no one is safe when they are on or around train or train tracks.

In the story called “ Aurora murder fugitive captured in Kansas" by Kirk Mitchell the author’s goal was to inform the public that a criminal has been captured. He wanted to excite the people that were reading the story and let them know that good guys win and bad guys lose. He also wanted to remind people about the crime that was committed four years prior. Don’t get me wrong, what happened to this man who was shot and killed, was horrible. But that was a while ago and Mitchell wanted to write a good story about a murder investigation. I myself found it fairly interesting that this man who killed somebody evaded authorities for four years.

It also seems that the author was trying to portray that the authorities didn’t quite know what they were up against and under estimated the challenge. As an example, Mitchell pointed out that the marshals didn’t really know where the fugitive’s Mom was living.

“Woman dies after shooting in Denver alley.” No information given for the author. After reading this article just one thing popped into my mind. There are only bad things happening in the world these days. Whenever you hear or watch the news, you don’t hear about good things, you hear about death. Like this woman that was shot and killed in an alley. Like always this crime was probably just some horrible person trying to make the world worse. It’s not fair to those who pay the price of death just because some crazy man shoots people up for the hell of it. It really makes me mad and I hope it makes you mad too. There are people everyday that are being killed for no reason at all like this 21 year old girl. She was young and still had a very long life ahead of her. This author had no intent of trying to catch the killer, but he was being paid to write the article. A person’s life is gone because of some person thinking they are above everybody else. In this story nothing mattered to the author.

In the article I read by Kieran Nicholson "Denver boy, 11, recognized for heroics" What materes to Roman Ross was that he had to do what he had to do. He saved a boys life and that's a very brave thing to do. What mattered to the author was getting a story out about a young boy that saved someone's life and it was a really great story and he wanted to share it. I thought that the article was very intresting In the sense of that he was offered when he was 21 to try and join the police academy. I also found it very intrsting that while he was up in front of the class that he was handed an envelope and once he looked inside of it he was very schoked. If I could ask the boy two questions the would be 1. What was going through your head when you saw the little boy drowning? 2. How much money did you receive in that check when you were in front of your class? I think it was a very brave thing that he did and he made the world a little bit better by doing the right thing.

“McCain In Colorado Friday” by Karen E. Crummy. What matters to her is that everyone goes out and votes and they are politically active and they go out and support whom they want to win the presidency. It was very interesting to me that presidential candidates are interested in stopping in Colorado. Normally when I think of Colorado and the people that stop by not a lot of people are in and out of Colorado so I really think that’s cool. What matters to Karen is that she wants to inform everybody in Colorado about the political role it has and that we need to go out and support the people that we think should be running this country. For me, I think that everyone should have to vote or support politics because if you don’t then someone else is making a decision for you. That’s what the author is trying to say. She is giving you places to go out and support someone and even if you don’t, then she is trying to get everyone to vote. I really like what she is trying to portray in this article. What matters to me in this article is that the author is trying to get people out and support the people, who in the near future will be leading the world. This article relates and will change the world because it is encouraging people to get out and be active in the political world.

2 cents worth By David Warlick

After I read the article “2 cents worth” By David Warlick I had a couple of thoughts about it. I thought that it was very interesting that this man traveled around a lot and he had a lot of spare time. He doesn’t like traveling around a lot, but he likes all the down time that he gets and so he gets to work a lot. Other than him going around eating and having fun at the airport he does his work so he is able to other things when e is out of the airport. I think David is pretty smart because he makes really good use of his time. He’s a problem solver.

In my english class this year, so far my favorite blog entry has been “was Chris McCandless a visionary or a fool? I really liked this writing that you assigned us because it made me think really hard. In the past I was a horrible writer in english and I always had a hard time doing well. But, now that I have had your class I feel good about my writing and that I am advancing in my writing ability. I think I stated to get better when you assigned us the Into the Wild project. I have had numerous compliments on my writing by my parents. I am actually happy in english and glad you assigned us that specific question. 

Pln2 What Do You Know by Karl Fisch

In the film What Do You Know by Karl Fisch What matters to him was informing people about the world we live in. In the film he showed us a lot of facts and averages about the world that people didn’t know about. The stats were from 2006. He wanted to inform us about other countries and see how we compare to them. We are very lucky that we have the technology we do so he wants us to use it right. I thought that it was interesting that it showed that India has 3.1 million people and we only have 1.3 million and our country is twice the size. He wants to make sure that we value what we have That was very important to him.

The machine is using us.

After watching Mike Welsh’s The Machine is using us, I think he wrote this to show us that there are so many new opportunities and new ways that we can do things. He kind of proved to us that we get the chance to rethink all kinds of things that need fixing. I’m thinking of this video of showing us a new revolution. We get to do research; we get to experiment with new things! I think he wanted us to see that. He also wanted to show everyone that you can post anything you want on the web It’s not just certain people that post things YOU can post things too. I think it’s very interesting that at one point he focused on ways that we can blog. I think that blogging is the new way to reach people and share your ideas. That’s how presidential candidate Barrack Obama is getting out to young voters. We created these machines, and I think Mike Welsh wants to empathize that we are letting these computers and new technology take us over. With new technology comes new opportunities but comes greater challenge also.

jake's thoughts

My thoughts on the first blog that we did were that it was very challenging but, fun and enjoyable. I really liked that for the first assignment you wanted to get to know us a little bit. But, I didn’t like the “in your face” new technology that I had to learn it was very difficult but I’m glad I’m learning new things. Also, I really liked the rubric that you gave us it was very straightforward and easy to follow and interpret. I believe this class will really challenge me to work my best. It will also be very hard for me to maintain my grade in this class.
